No, I promise we're not going to get into a bunch of theopholosiphical stuff (I know that's not a word, but it's the one that my brain has decided to use). I got to learn about these names in my homeschool, and I've been surprised how much it's affected how I look at Bible verses with these names in them. I thought today, at the start of the New Year, might be a good time to share those and to take a quick look at Who God reveals Himself as. Old Testament

Welcome back! Ready to see what the most popular answers to the questions last week were? Just scroll down! And I'm tacking on part of a poem that I got to read for my literature class that touched me. It's a beautiful reminder of how much more God's Word is worth than anything else! I hope it will be a blessing to you too. :D from The Vaudois Teacher "O lady fair, these silks of mine are beautiful and rare, -- The richest web of the Indian loom, which beauty's queen might wear; And my pearls are pure as thy own fair neck, with whose radiant light they vie; I have brought them with me a weary way, — will my gentle lady buy?" The lady smiled on the worn old man through the dark and clustering curls Which veiled her brow, as she bent to view his silks and glittering pearls; And she placed their price in the old man's hand and lightly turned away, But she paused at the wanderer's earnest call, — "My gentle lady, stay! "O lady fair, I have yet a gem which a purer lustre flings, Than the diamond flash of the jewelled crown on the lofty brow of kings; A wonderful pearl of exceeding price, whose virtue shall not decay, Whose light shall be as a spell to thee and a blessing on thy way!" The lady glanced at the mirroring steel where her form of grace was seen, Where her eye shone clear, and her dark locks waved their clasping pearls between; "Bring forth thy pearl of exceeding worth, thou traveller gray and old, And name the price of thy precious gem, and my page shall count they gold." The cloud went off from the pilgrim's brow, as a small and meagre book, Unchased with gold or gem of cost, from his folding robe he took! "Here, lady fair, is the pearl of price, may it prove as such to thee! Nay, keep thy gold—I ask it not, for the word of God is free! The hoary traveller went his way, but the gift he left behind Hath had its pure and perfect work on that high-born maiden's mind, And she hath turned from the pride of sin to the lowliness of truth, And given her human heart to God in its beautiful hour of youth! Were the results of last week's questions how you expected them to be? Had you ever read this poem before?

I know, normally these are called new year "resolutions." I don't know about you, but I've found that those don't always pan out. In fact, by this part of January, many of these have been dropped or are soon-to-be-dropped. Which is why I'd rather think of mine as "goals." Goals that aren't anything completely new and exciting or that take drastic changes to implement. Just things that, as I look at where I am and where I'd like to be at the end of this year, I've decided to write out to give me a visual idea of what I'd like to work on. Not that there's anything wrong with resolutions. Just that my mind works better with goals. ;) As I looked back at 2022 and ahead at this next year, I decided on these few things to be my list of what I'd like to make progress on. I hope you'll find reading through my list interesting and even encouraging and that you'll hop down to the comments and share yours with all of us.
This can seem like a bad thing, but if I think about God before I go to bed, it works in my favor. If I can read a few verses before bed and meditate on them as I go to sleep, I tend to wake up thinking about God, and then that more easily consumes my thoughts. And when God is on the forefront of my mind, I tend to automatically focus on the important areas of responsibility because He is directing my mind. And that's something that I want to focus more on letting Him do this year. Do you prefer to think of your new year ideas as goals or resolutions? Do you have any for this year?
